This Privacy Policy explains how Popup Blocker Pro (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Popup Blocker Pro browser extension (the “Extension”) and our website https://popup-blocker.org/ (together, the “Services”).
We collect the following types of data:
Extension settings (local preferences, block lists, version) – to operate the Extension and remember your choices.
Visited URLs (full URL including query parameters and fragments, referrer, timestamp) – to detect and block popups, measure rule effectiveness, and improve accuracy.
Technical data (browser type, OS type, extension version, error logs) – for debugging, security, and compatibility.
We do not collect page contents, keystrokes, form data, passwords, or any personal text you enter on websites. We do not sell, rent, or share this information with any third party for advertising, marketing, or data-broker purposes. However, we may share anonymized and aggregated data with trusted third parties who can use it for commercial and analytical purposes.
The Extension may create a random installation ID to manage diagnostics and updates. It is not shared across products and may rotate periodically. IP addresses are not collected briefly for rate-limiting and security, then deleted within 7 days.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| tabs | Read tab metadata (URL and title) to detect and block popups. No page content is read or stored. |
| storage | Save preferences and block lists locally on your device. |
| webRequest | Inspect network requests to cancel or redirect popup traffic. Data is handled in-memory only. |
| declarativeNetRequest | Apply predefined blocking rules efficiently inside the browser. |
| contextMenus | Add right-click options to whitelist or report sites. |
| Host permissions: | *://*/* are required so the Extension can block popups on any site. |
We never request broader access than needed and do not escalate permissions without your approval.
In the Extension's Options Page you can:
We do not sell, share, or disclose personal data for advertising or cross-context tracking. We share information only with service providers that help operate the Services (e.g., hosting and support providers). These providers act solely on our behalf and are bound by contract to use the data only for our purposes.
The Extension does not set cookies. Our website may use basic analytics (e.g., self-hosted Matomo or PostHog) to measure traffic and performance. No cross-site tracking or advertising cookies are used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). Server access is restricted and logged. No system is perfectly secure, but we apply industry-standard protections to reduce risk. We will notify users and authorities if legally required after a breach.
We do not impose retention limits on collected data. Data is retained indefinitely unless you request deletion.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your data, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, email hello@popup-blocker.org. We may ask for identity verification before acting on a request.
Popup Blocker Pro is not intended for children under 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
We’ll update this policy as needed and change the “Last Updated” date above. If changes are material, we’ll post a notice within the Extension or on our website.
